Thanks,  what I actually needed to do  was I needed to set the BSD 
partition as active as it seems that the installation of Windows ME 
"deactivated" the BSD partition.

To do that I created the 2 installations disks kern.flp and msroot.flp 
booted into my BSD partition and ran /stand/sysinstall from there I set the 
partion as active, had it install the boot manager and then commited it.

I rebooted and it worked.
