Umm, John..  check the audit-trail of the PR.  I followed up on Nov 
18th, copied to you, indicating that it did solve this particular 
problem -- I actually hit the acpi issue further down in the boot, but 
that was straightforward enough to work around once I got my other amd64 
box back.

Please do commit it.
