I don't know enough to say if it's relevant or not. However,  my first=20
install (on a KVM switch with an ASUS A7A266 ) had the same problem--a=20
lockup.  Solved it by simply popping in another keyboard, a cheaper one,=20
actually.  Do you have another keyboard with which you can try it?

Also  if you are doing it through a KVM, try attaching the keyboard=20
directly to the box, rather than through the KVM (though I suspect if you=20
were using a KVM, you would have mentioned it)  :)
