Odhiambo Washington,
Thank you for your thoughtful reply. According to the documentation
located at:
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/kernelconfig-building.html
   ...
For example:

# cd /usr/src/sys/i386/conf
# mkdir /root/kernels
# cp GENERIC /root/kernels/MYKERNEL
# ln -s /root/kernels/MYKERNEL
   ...
So, in case it is not yet apparent, DEMON01 is located in /root/krenels
and the link is located in /usr/src/sys/i386/conf (yes I re-created it
after re-installing src).

Are we on the same page yet. ;)

BTW, I think that unless something new has happened since I read the docs
a couple of hrs. ago, the sequence you provide here is missing a couple
of steps - make install, mergemaster, etc...

If only Western Electric had found a way to offer
binary licenses for the UNIX system back in 1974,
the UNIX system would be running on all PC's today
rather than DOS/Windows.
