actually what i think someone should really tell you is that
maybe you should take a look at the free() manual which is available 
here http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=free&apropos=0&sektion=0&manpath=FreeBSD+7.0-RELEASE&format=html
or you can try to run `man free` in the console.
there is a good explanation on diagnostic and debugging malloc related problems

can someone please explain to me what happens to the allocated memory called within a function assigned to its local pointer after this function ends
