After further investigation it turned out that the problem is that
Xorg in FreeBSD doesn't support the DisplayPort 1.2 specification.
After I disabled the DisplayPort 1.2 in the configuration menu of my
Dell U2414H monitor Xfce started to work. At the same time Windows 10
in this hardware supports DisplayPort 1.2 properly. Is it a known
limitation and is support of DisplayPort 1.2 going to be implemented?
