Might want to try:

freebsd-newbies -- New FreeBSD users activities and discussions 

freebsd-newbies@freebsd.org

Books are always useful too, if you are worried about getting too much
e-mail. Although, I see receiving more discussion on particular topics
as being more useful than less.

Do you have filters in your e-mail program? You could filter the
messages from the list to go into a specific folder and read at your
leisure.
