Subject: Problem when someone tries to finger our host

I was wondering if anyone could help me with the following problem. We run a
FreeBSD 2.0.5 Internet Server and today it just all of a sudden appeared to
develop a problem with the fingerd daemon.

When someone tries to finger our host, the finger shows up no results at the remote
end ( they just get a blank line after the host name ) even when there is someone
logged on. It even happens when I do a finger straight from the host. eg. f @riker.
It doesnt even come up with a "No one logged on" message.

The system logs produce the following message which I have no idea what it means.
This is the second time it has happenened and I know that a system re-boot fixes
it up since that is what I did last time.

May 7 14:29:31 riker fingerd[6088]: fork: Resource temporarily unavailable

I was wondering if someone could explain the above message to me and
explain to me a way to fix it up without rebooting the system.

Thanks,

Paul.
