You've got it backwards.  FreeBSD is based off of 4.4BSD (Berkely Software
Distribution)-Lite, developed at the University of California at Berkeley.
BSDI (Berkely Software Design, Inc) is the commercial venture of those who
did the initial work at Berkeley.  BSDI produces BSD/OS.
