It's not uncommon for ISPs to terminate the connection when the 
connection is idle for too long (mine does).  What you need is 
to do a search from the mailing list for "stay connected".  There
are scripts that work.  Usually it involves pinging a nearby site (or
address) to tell if the connection is dropped.

Call the script every 5 minutes and your connection should stay connected
or be restored (either way).

I believe it's in one of Mark Plummer's questions (or maybe answers).
