I'm having similar problems. I get

===> gnu/usr.bin/perl/perl
find: build: No such file or directory
find: build: No such file or directory
mkdir: lib/auto: File exists
*** Error code 1

And it fails right there. I followed your suggestions and it does the same
thing. *sigh*
