'lo matt; Re midifiles not sounding as good as the AWE toys..... given that u had just booted it up on your machine... i would be willing to bet that the card's midi stuff is mapped into some default sounds other then the AWE stuff you probably have to create patch files and map them yourself. This is not surprising given the vagaries of sound hardware and software.
