It *is* an Intel motherboard - not proprietary at all (though I did find 
many of them out there).  If it is an INTEL motherboard, I figure I 
should be fine.

I had no choice in the matter - it is a package deal after all - and I 
*have* heard good things about the monitor, even though the Sony may be a 
better monitor, are they specific things I need to be aware about this 
monitor?

Ulterior motive - I get to keep the computer when it is done being a 
server 8-)

I have been comparing for about a month now (like an hour or two a day!) 
and I finally have decided on FreeBSD - you folks have the right stuff!

well, all my system admin friends tell me that FreeBSD is much more 
superior than Linux - I am glad you helped me to confirm this.
