You didn't mention video card type.  Is it a PCI video card or a
VLB video card.  One needs to be carefull on this board if you
use the VLB card you can only use 1 PCI master.  If you don't
use the VLB slot you can use 2 PCI masters.

I also don't have enough context here to judge what the problem
was :-(.

You have the wrong model motherboard.  The PVI-486AP4 has a working
write back cache.  It is the PCI/I-486SP3G that has the broken right
back cache (actually, you need a dirty cache ram chip and revision 1.8
or later of the board and the cache will do write back correctly).
