kbdcontrol -d >key.map
vi key.map  # format is self-explanatory
kbdcontrol -l key.map

I have a custom keymap that swaps BS and DEL.  It used to give NUL on
ctrl-space, but this is now in the default keymap anyway.  Put the
keymap file somewhere convenient, and read it in out of rc.local.
