I'm running a 5.0-CURRENT SNAP as of 7/23 on my Sony VAIO PCG-SR7K.

Much to my delight, 5.0 properly identifies (at least I think!) my audio
device:

pcm0: <Yamaha DS-1E (YMF754)> port 0xfc8c-0xfc8f,0xfcc0-0xfcff mem 0xfedf8000-0xfedfffff irq 9 at device 9.0 on pci0

	and

FreeBSD Audio Driver (newpcm) Jul 27 2000 13:55:26
Installed devices:
pcm0: <Yamaha DS-1E (YMF754)> at memory 0xfedf8000 irq 9 (4p/2r channels duplex)

Moreover, I can play MP3s just fine using mpg123.

Unfortunately, all is not well when I run the RealPlayer 7 Beta 2 under
Linux emulation. The volume control works fine, but the audio output I get
sounds like static.

I've tried every permutation of the (few) RealPlayer audio device preferences.
No change at all.

Does anyone have any experience overcoming this sort of problem with RealPlayer
on a Yamaha audio device with newpcm?

Many thanks,
-Brad, karp@eecs.harvard.edu
