This is nothing new.  We've seen it before in the project and we will
probably see it again.

The only cure is a decently stable .0 release.

Yes.  I agree.

For instance, anybody with just a moderately senior kernel hacker
were able to predict that diffs between 4.x and 5.x would be a
total wreck for most people.

I think the mistake was to try to do "the normal -current/-stable
thing" despite the fact that we knew it would break down.

Based on seniority and proven wide-angle view I would currently
point to people like peter, msmith and myself.

Getting more of our f**king userbase involved in spreading the word ? 

I think our users are a lazy bunch of elitist snobs when it comes to
advocacy.  There are a few out there who try to kindle the flame, but
most of them would never do squat to try to spread the gospel...

Of course, one could *hope* that core would spend time on such
issues, but hey, I'm not holding my breath...
