Sure.  My point was simply that once we have branched, the update code 
should go away from -current.  I'm all for making the update code in 
"new -stable" work properly.

Understood.  I'm not sure what makes you think that I have time to do 
it either, of course.  There's only one of me, dozens of you, and I 
have other stuff on my plate as well.  8(
