I am interested in helping to port the USB-capabilities from NetBSD
and OpenBSD to FreeBSD.

Wonderful.  The best thing to do is to email usb@freebsd.org and speak
to the people there.  I've not done any USB development for over a year
now, but there is an active developer base on that list.
