Please use bonnie to bench your disks. Make sure, that 
the size of the tmp file is about 4 times as large as 
main memory. Default for bonnie is 100MB.

Benchmarks with files that are transferred in about 2-7
secons are not serious. The question is what you want
to bench ... Harddisk/bus performance or memory (cache)
performance... :->
