He's talking about a base station. The SMC base stations work just
fine to FreeBSD clients (I have a pair of SMC base stations at home)
with or without WEP.

I have yet to see any sign that WEP works wth the SMC client cards (it
certainly didn't the last time I tried it), but that is another
matter.
