I can now...

Well, it WAS rather simple. Too simple.  I somehow recompiled the Linux
kernel with the wrong values for the Sound Driver. Conflicted with my
ethernet card. ( Industrial Strength Stupid... )

Recompile, everything as easy as I know it to be.
