This seems like a reasonable tactic to me, but I think you need to
make sure more people are aware of the proposal (and are comfortable
with it) before doing it.  Thus, I have changed the subject line on
this message, and pointed it to a different combination of mailing
lists...  This would also allow more people to come up with alternate
proposals.
