Just because something is distributed with the OS does not
mean that it isn't "third party." The FreeBSD Core Team
doesn't develop Perl, for example.

It's been said before -- and justifiably -- that one of 
the biggest pains one encounters when maintaining FreeBSD 
systems is updating third party applications that are 
included in the base install. One often has to play
subtle tricks, or do a lot of shuffling, to get a newer
version installed on top of the old.
