Hmm, I was hit by Murphy:  When turning to "No" again to get the dmesg
for you, it worked again.  After some debugging, I found out that
the OSS driver (which set the MIDI port to 0x300, where the ed driver
attached the NIC as well) was the problem, and this even lasted during
soft reboots.

It works now.
