Just following up on my own message.

The below method ( previous message ) didn't help me. OpenOffice1.1
compiled for about 4 hours then came up with this error message:

Stop in /usr/ports/editors/openoffice-1.1.

I then went and manually edited each file changing $Panel to .Panel and
finally the bugger compiled. Yay! :-)
