External? As in
connects-to-serial-and-obeys-standard-AT-commands-external?

Should have no problems with that, I'd guess. With a quick google 
search it seems they use Rockwell chipset, and as far as I know, 
that's ok quality.

That external will definitely be improvement over win/linmodem..

AFAIK, all external modems work with any fbsd release. Someone 
correct me if you know of an exception.
