Why does there need to be another character? `::' works well. It is the path separator on at least one other platform. It is extremely unlikely to be used in the path names of ports. And IMHO most importantly: that's what is in use in hundreds of ports in CVS right now. In other words, with no compelling reason to change the convention, please don't change it.
