Once upon a time I had an HP Pavilion very similar to
the one you have. I was annoyed at the same thing that
is annoying you. Later, I discovered a button near the
touchpad that, when pressed, disabled the touchpad
altogether. Pressing it again reenabled it. I found
that pressing that button was no more disagreeable
than moving my hand from a regular mouse to a
keyboard. Pressing the button again was no more
inconvenient than moving my hand from keyboard to a
regular mouse.

You may wish to inspect your equipment for a button
that might disable/reenable the touchpad. Mine had a
little blue light.
