That may be so, (in fact, at this point me and my staff *are*
ca.freebsd.org team, something we're trolling around bsd groups to
change), but I still would feel awkward about
joeblowuser@xx.freebsd.org. It's clear to you and me that there is a
difference, but is it clear to the public?

You are part of the FreeBSD team.  Specifically, the ca.freebsd.org 
team.  I think it's quite clear to anyone involved that a 
@ca.freebsd.org address is very different to a @freebsd.org.
