MOZ_ENABLE_XFT is set to 1.  then again all the variables specified
only in Makefile.local don't seem to be noticed.  in effect, as if
i had bee building the mozilla w/ all the default settings (save for
changes to CONFIGURE_ARGS).

i will try again by using ".include" in the Makefile.
