Hi,=20
=20
 I am unable to get the sound going on my laptop and I badly need your HELP=
!=20
=20
 1) Recompiled the Kernel adding =ABdev pcm=BB (Via AC'97).=20
=20
 2) Now, these /dev(s) are shown:=20
 audio0.0, audio0.1, dsp0.0, dsp.0.1,dspW0.0, dspW0.1, stderr, stdin, stdou=
t=20
etc...
=20
 3) I have tried to output sound to all of them (KDE*) WITHOUT success (I d=
o=20
not hear a thing).=20
=20
 4) This is what I have found out:=20
 4.a=20
 # grep pcm /var/run/dmesg.boot=20
 pcm0: <VIA VT82C686A> port 0x1830-0x1833,0x1834-0x1837,0x1000-0x10ff irq 9=
 at=20
device 7.5 on pci0=20
 pcm0: ac97 codec invalid or not present (id =3D=3D ffffffff)=20
 robur#=20

 4.b=20
 # pciconf -lv=20

hdr=3D0x00=20
 vendor =3D 'VIA Technologies Inc'=20
 device =3D 'VT82C686/A/B AC'97 Audio Codec'=20
 class =3D multimedia=20
 subclass =3D audio=20

 4.c
 # cat /dev/sndstat=20
 FreeBSD Audio Driver (newpcm)=20
 Installed devices:=20
 pcm0: <VIA VT82C686A> at io 0x1000 irq 9 (1p/1r/0v channels duplex default)
=20
 5) If I try to load the codec:=20
 # kldload snd_via82c686.ko=20
 kldload: can't load snd_via82c686.ko: File exists=20
=20
 I am affraid I am lost. Can anyone give me an insight please?=20
=20
 Thank You,=20
 HDV
=20
 *Before adding =ABdevice pcm=BB to the Kernel KDE always showed a message =
saying=20
there was no sound device or something similar, this error message does not=
=20
appear now but either I am unable to run the Mixer (it hangs for a while an=
d=20
does not start) either it starts but shows no volume control.
