I can and will (try, at least).

But the port maintainer told me the following (I emailed them privately 
before filing the PR):

   Changes to the ca-certificate port are always possible, but will be a
   bit slower than usual, because the certificate needs to be thoroughly
   checked for authenticity, reliability and reputation, amongst others.

This may be the reason for the maintainer timeout. But whether it is or 
not, having a committable patch ready will arguably save time, which may 
be your point.
