Now that KDE has matured, it is an excellent choice for a desktop environment, and runs just as well on FreeBSD as Linux. (I am not a GNOME fan, personally). I have tried several different Linux distributions, and my current favourite is Suse 10.0, given a copy on a DVD to avoid shuffling CDs in and out of the drive. They have done a great job - but I still come back to FreeBSD for all serious work.
