Ah, the good old days.  Note, of course, that here the struct bufs are
statically allocated.  But it did have its advantages:

  $ BLOCKSIZE=1024 du -s /S/pdp11/Third-Edition/ /usr/src/sys/dev/vinum/
  220     /S/pdp11/Third-Edition/
  375     /usr/src/sys/dev/vinum/
