Actually, Eric Anholt has been doing a lot of work on the BSD-2-0-0 DRI
cvs branch on sourceforge.  It can be difficult to get working, but it
will dependably drive MGA G400's and the various tdfx cards.  There's
alpha support for R128's and possibly radeon cards.
