this seems a  little extreme, John. I'm running a -current kernel from
today with  $Id: ufs_readwrite.c,v 1.38 1997/12/29 01:03:50 dyson Exp $
and it's just fine.

The worst breakage was fixed in 1.37 to ufs_readwrite.c, seems to me.

Just my experience.
