And I've figured out my problem.  I was doing

	newfs [options] /dev/ccd0c

And I shoulda been doing

	newfs [options] /dev/rccd0c


Why was I doing this?  This problem wasn't unique to my CCD, I was able to
crash my machine without this.  No, the problem is in the man page for
newfs.  I quoth from the examples:

EXAMPLES
           mount_mfs -s=20480 -o nosuid,nodev /dev/sd0b /tmp


--> shouldn't this be /dev/rsd0b?
