Hi Niels,

being more of an operator than a developer I don't have any insight into the
root cause of this, but we run a ton of jails and a couple of bhyve VMs on
FreeBSD in production and we found that

* The automatic adjustment of ARC size under memory pressure is still not
working perfectly.
* It helps to statically limit the ARC size (vfs.zfs.arc_max) on the host
system - we use a quarter of physical memory, so VMs have some breathing ro=
om.
* I would definitely limit the ARC size inside each VM
* Are you running the virtual disks as AHCI or virtio? We use virtio
throughout.

HTH
Patrick
