I have two Compaq's (both deskpro 4000's) and the only comments I have are: - beware of the special disk partition the Compaq's use to manage the BIOS - some of the newer Compaq's simply make this a directory but you have to make it (or keep it rather) a FAT file system in order for the system to access the BIOS. - the internal ThunderLan NIC's in mine sometimes go to sleep - not sure why but they simply stop working once in a while. Not sure if upgrading from 3.1 to 3.4/3.5 would resolve this but it is mainly an irritant. Hope that helps, Rick -----Original Message----- From: Waite, Michael [mailto:Michael.Waite@compaq.com] Sent: Wednesday, April 12, 2000 1:45 PM To: 'Luciano de Oliveira'; hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: RE: squid server By the one from Compaq. I hear that FreeBSD runs twice as fast on it :-) Sorry but i am not much help with the Intel line. Now if you wanted to step up to the real systems (Alpha) then I might have more to offer. -----Mike -----Original Message----- From: Luciano de Oliveira [mailto:luciano@unicap.br] Sent: Wednesday, April 12, 2000 5:11 PM To: hardware@freebsd.org Subject: squid server Hi ALL, We're buying a server to work with squid, and i'd like to know if there's any problem known with these machine models: HP LPr, HP LC2000 and COMPAQ DL380, all of them comes with 2 processors, wide scsi 2 or 3, I'm not sure.
