Actually, if you ask Amancio Hasty, you will discover that there
are at least a few projects that have participants that go out
of their way to intentionally break the code so that it will not
run on non-Linux systems by default.

Amancio rode herd on a number of these projects to ensure that
FreeBSD compatability was maintained, but without an established
position in the project, it's really difficult to guard against
this sort of thing being done by people who are already well
established.
