Well, the group that went for Dim Sum on Sunday was small but spirited, and the food was exquisite. We didn't plan it, but it turns out that today was some sort of Chinese vernal equinox holiday, so the restaurant was packed and trotted out all of their very best stuff. There were MOUNDS of Chinese broccoli, several dozen varieties of dumplings, steamed lotus leaves full of sticky rice.... We stuffed ourselves until we could barely get up. Wonderful stuff.

In any case, several folks mentioned about a month ago on this list that there was interest in an outing for Indian food at the convention as well, so we've tentatively planned one for Monday evening after the reception.

The destination is Pasand, a south Indian restaurant in downtown Berkeley at Shattuck and Bancroft (NW corner). If you're used to north Indian or "British" Indian food, then there's new stuff for you to try here: dosas, which are crepes so large they barely fit on the plate; idli sambhar (lentil soup with steamed bread dumplings), and several kinds of south Indian breads. There's also the usual tandoori fare (if you like fish, try the tandoori sea bass), curries, and biriyanis. As at most Indian restaurants, there are many vegetarian options.

We'll gather at 7 in the lobby by the registration desk. Getting to the restaurant is simple: University east to Shattuck; Shattuck south to Bancroft and find a place to park. Note that on-street parking can be tricky to find in Berkeley, so the restaurant reservation will be for 7:30. I have three seats available in my rental car.

If you know you want to come, RSVP via e-mail so that I can call the restaurant with an approximate head count. This will let us spend less time waiting and more time eating (yum).
