Or maybe not make the change.  Many things still depend on the global
`errno' existing and having the old semantics, beginning with libc
itself (nice.c, Ovfork.S, ...), so the change doesn't actually work
yet.

It's not reasonable.  It defeats the point of supporting old syscall
interfaces (olseek() etc.) through really major OS releases.
