"3.0.0" (just 3.0, actually), at the date you mention, is *not* in
the stable branch. That was on the current branch. 3.1-release,
which should be out this week, is on the stable branch. Since the
2.x line is not going to receive further development, by all means
you should go to 3.x-stable. BUT, wait until 3.1-release.

Unfortunately, I can't answer this question. But, if it is supported
at all, it should be supported on the 3.x-stable branch.
