   We've noticed the problem as well, but I've always chalked it down to 
a Linux problem.  Linux 'talk' can not converse with FreeBSD talk, SunOS 
talk, Solaris talk, and (according to you) ULTRIX talk.  I haven't tried 
it on other systems.

   I believe it to be a Linux problem, though I could be mistaken.
