On an older 4.11 FreeBSD system I need to replace a disk. Matthew Seaman

once explained how:

http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-questions/2003-July/011733.html

For one, he said to start with:

fdisk -I ad4

But when I re-do that, it says: "No such file or directory"

And, indeed, I have:

crw-r----- 2 root operator 116, 0x00020022 May 19 2004 /dev/ad4s1

crw-r----- 2 root operator 116, 0x00020020 May 19 2004 /dev/ad4s1a

crw-r----- 2 root operator 116, 0x00020021 May 19 2004 /dev/ad4s1b

crw-r----- 2 root operator 116, 0x00020022 May 19 2004 /dev/ad4s1c

crw-r----- 2 root operator 116, 0x00020023 May 19 2004 /dev/ad4s1d

crw-r----- 2 root operator 116, 0x00020024 May 19 2004 /dev/ad4s1e

crw-r----- 2 root operator 116, 0x00020025 May 19 2004 /dev/ad4s1f

crw-r----- 2 root operator 116, 0x00020026 May 19 2004 /dev/ad4s1g

crw-r----- 2 root operator 116, 0x00020027 May 19 2004 /dev/ad4s1h

But no ad4, it seems. How quaint! So, is there a way to recreate it? The

backup disk is failing, and I need to have it replaced soon.

Thanks,

- Mark
