There should be no need to do this. It should be easy and painless
to do a complete, straight-through network install.

What's more, the problems with PCMCIA cards aren't limited to network
cards. NO card will work properly by default on such a machine, either
during installation or afterward. This does not make FreeBSD look good
on portables.
