Are you sure that the route for the destination you
try to ping or the default route is on the ppp interface ?

This can be done in the ppp.conf file with a
add! 0 10.0.0.2
(assuming you have  before in the ppp.conf file something like:
set ifaddr 10.0.0.1/0 10.0.0.2/0 255.255.255.0 0.0.0.0)
