I've only got 2 freebsd servers running with ECC ram. Everything else, is
non ECC. The two that are, are dual 2400+ MP chip mainboards of the Tyan
Tiger MPX (S2466) variety and are working well. These boards specifically
state that they'll run non ECC ram up to 2gb on slots 1 & 2, but to get
higher than 2gb, you'll need ECC with a max of 4gb total.

So far, they've been running quite well. One hasn't had any issues since it
was installed over 90 days ago and running strong. Our NFS server is the
same at 120days since install and no reboots or issues.

This just my opinion so please be aware that your mileage may vary.
