Exactly.  With no clue as to the attitudes and requirements of the _average_
computer user.

Because there are still users out there who want to run that software, and won't
buy anything that doesn't allow that.  Indeed, there are _corporations_ out
there who still want to run that software, too.

Doomed is a strong word.  I don't think that products often succeed big-time on
technical merit alone, but a handful do (CDs and DVDs come to mind).  Usually,
though, other factors decide which technology succeeds (cf. VHS vs. Betamax).
